このニュースを追っていると、医学というものは時に罪深いと思います
IVFは人工授精のこと
人工授精は不妊治療として広く利用されています
日本でも高齢出産が増えており、その方達が子供を授かる選択肢、不妊治療の一つとなっています
ただ、不妊治療という名前ですが、治療というよりも「受胎できる可能性を高める手段」程度の意味です
不妊の治療という意味ではないので、日本語訳が誤解を招いているとも思います

では、Three-person IVFとはなにかというと、
- ミトコンドリアに障害のある女性がいて、その病気は遺伝してしまう
- 病気の女性の卵子から核を取り出します
- 健康な女性の卵子からも核を取り出して、こちらは細胞質を残します
- 病気の女性の核を、健康な女性の細胞に移植します
まず、これでミトコンドリアに障害のある女性は、健康なミトコンドリアと自分の核を持つ卵子を手に入れることになります
で、次に
こうすることで、ミトコンドリアに障害のある女性でも、健康なミトコンドリアを持つ子供を出産することができる
ということになります

初めに目にしたニュース
The UK has moved closer to becoming the first country to allow the creation of babies from three people.
The Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) has advised the government that there is no evidence the advanced forms of IVF were unsafe.
The fertility regulator's public consultation also showed "general support" for the idea as the benefits outweighed the risks.
A final decision on whether to press ahead rests with ministers.

ただ、技術の進歩と人の倫理観というものは、時にすれ違います
これは避けて通れないことと思います

個人的には、科学の進歩は私たちの生活を、最近では地球環境をより良いものに変えて行くものと思っています
ただ、技術は社会とともにあり、人々ともにあります
このミトコンドリアに障害のある方に子供を授ける研究は、まず病気の治療研究に重きを置くべきなのだろうな、と思いました
また、社会はこのような人工授精を望まざるを得ない環境を改善して行く必要があると思います
養子縁組の制度もあります
私にとって、家族のあり方、そのものを考えるきっかけになりました
